Lewis-Clark State College invites applications for the position of Dean of Professional Studies.

Salary based on experience and qualifications:  $100,000 - $110,000

Degree Requirement:  Earned doctorate in one of the disciplines within Professional Studies

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in a supervisory capacity within an academic environment at the level of Department Head/Division Chair, Assistant or Associate Dean.
  • A record of excellence in teaching, scholarship and administration
  • Leadership in the development of professional programs and course offerings
  • Participatory leadership style with superior interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills
  • Proven experience in program level assessment and specialized accreditation
  • Expertise in developing and managing budgets
  • Qualifications suitable for tenure at a senior rank in one of the academic divisions in Professional Studies
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team member with administrators, faculty, staff and students

Responsibilities:

The Dean of Professional Studies reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, and collaborates with the other Deans to meet strategic instructional goals of the institution.  The Dean oversees the administrative and academic activities of the divisions within Professional Studies (Business, Nursing & Health Sciences, Teacher Education, and the Library), promotes Chair and faculty development, participates in budget and personnel decision-making, and assists in securing external funding to benefit Professional Studies. 

Specific Duties:

  • Establish and maintain collaborative and collegial administrative relationships
  • Advise the Provost on issues relative to professional programs
  • Advise the Provost and President on college-wide matters as requested
  • Coordinate with appropriate areas within the college to insure high quality instruction, programming, and advising
  • Communicate issues and recommendations to appropriate college personnel
  • Serve on Academic Petitions and Curriculum committees, and others as assigned
  • Develop and maintain appropriate communication vehicles including websites
  • Secure space and other needed resources through consultation with the Provost and other appropriate offices
  • Represent upper administrative in the LCSC Faculty Senate as needed

Budgets and Resources

  • Lead development of Professional Studies resource requests
  • Manage, distribute, and monitor area resources
  • Provide oversight for budgets and hiring of adjunct faculty
  • Insure compliance with college and state policies
  • Develop budget requests, allocate resources, and control expenditures from approved budgets
  • Seek external resources to support programs within Professional Studies

Leadership

  • Foster excellence in instruction and programming
  • Represent area of responsibility to appropriate community and professional organizations
  • Actively participate with Student Affairs and Division personnel to recruit new students
  • With the other Deans, actively participate in implementation of the various campus plans (Strategic, Instructional Enrollment, Recruitment and Retention plans, for example)
  • Represent LCSC as assigned

Program Development and Management

  • Approve and foster new programming
  • Implement measures of program effectiveness
  • Monitor professional requirements for graduates
  • In conjunction with the Director of Grants and Contracts, coordinate and oversee grant development and administration activities
  • Monitor assessment of programs through program review process; specialized accreditations; and surveys of graduates and employers

Personnel

  • Define job responsibilities, assign duties, and supervise non-faculty personnel
  • Foster chair, faculty and staff professional growth
  • Evaluate chairs, faculty and staff and make appropriate recommendations regarding hiring, promotion, tenure, and retention

Policy Administration

  • Implement academic policies and procedures
  • Implement appropriate institutional and State Board of Education policies and procedures
  • Maintain required records and prepares required reports
