Lewis-Clark State College invites applications for the position of Business Consultant.

Salary based on experience and qualifications: $38,000 - $40,000 (.75 fte; 30 hours per week)

Degree Requirement: B.A. or B.S. in Business or closely related field

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of small business ownership, management, lending, business consultation or equivalent combination of knowledge, skill and experience
  • Minimum of 3 years experience with accounting and/or finance principles and practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Business
  • Experience developing and preparing financial documents, including budgets
  • Experience analyzing financial activities and recommending management action
  • Experience with small business lending

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions

  1. Provide high-quality, individual, no-cost business coaching and consulting services to business clients through direct, interpersonal relationships.
  2. Analyze issues, identify opportunities and coach clients regarding business management, marketing, accounting, operations, planning, leadership, regulations and other business operations.
  3. Communicate with clients, obtain SBDC service impact verification and enter client information, impacts and notes in Center IC database.
  4. Refer clients to appropriate resources, if necessary.
  5. Help center meet Idaho SBDC annual goals including: Consulting and Training Hours, Client Business Starts, Capital Raised, Jobs Created, and Sales Growth.
  6. Connect faculty and students with clients for experiential learning and problem solving.
  7. Fostering and maintaining strong relationships in the business and economic development communities.
  8. Maintain strict confidentiality of all client information. Identify any potential conflict of interest and communicate with the client, other consultants, Center Director and the SBDC State Director to resolve any issue.
  9. Assure compliance with the Center's customer satisfaction process. Review evaluations and develop correction plans as necessary.
  10. Contribute to the implementation of the Idaho SBDC Strategic Plan. This includes development of strategies to market and improve consulting, training and research for business owners.
  11. Develop, coordinate and provide business training workshops as needed.
  12. Review training programs and evaluations to determine effectiveness of programs, instructors and changing needs of businesses.
  13. Attend required training, such as the Idaho SBDC Professional Development Training and attend encouraged training, such as the America's SBDC national conference.

Other Duties

Additional duties and responsibilities include those of Financial Coordinator.

  1. Preparation of monthly program reports using spreadsheets to track expenditures and account balances for multiple account budgets.
  2. Monitor revenue and expenditures for multiple grants.
  3. Preparation of periodic financial status reports to SBDC State Office.

Competencies

  1. Requires use/operation of computer software, including e-mail, word processing, spreadsheets, database, and Internet.
  2. High quality skills in written and oral communication in English.
  3. Knowledge and ability to explain business management, accounting, bookkeeping, marketing, planning, human resources, government contracting, and business regulations.
  4. Ability to work well with a diverse client base.
  5. Provide consulting to clients around their challenges such as entrepreneurship, business risks, financial trouble, and interpersonal problems.
  6. Work with high level of discretion and autonomy and perform related duties as required.

Travel
Travel may be needed to meet clients at their place of business. Travel is required to attend day to week long trainings possibly in distant U.S. locations.
